With a vineyard as big as 300 000 hectares, Languedoc Roussillon is the biggest wine region in the world. It is divided into 38 registered designations of origin (AOC,\u201cAppellation d\u2019origine contr\u00f4l\u00e9e\u201d i.e. Controlled Appellation of Origin) as well as 23 local wines\u2019 designations (IGP, \u201cIndication g\u00e9ographique prot\u00e9g\u00e9e\u201di.e. Protected Geographical Indication).
